The old Jewish cemetery in Mysłowice was established as the first Jewish cemetery in Upper Silesia in the 18th century.
The cemetery was located on a strongly elongated plot of approximately 0.26 hectares.
The oldest surviving monument from the old cemetery is a stele dated February 20, 1770, moved to the new Jewish cemetery. There are no exact data on the number of people buried in the cemetery.
Despite the opening of a new Jewish cemetery in the vicinity in 1866, the old cemetery was probably still open for burial purposes.
The old Jewish cemetery remained unchanged until 1945. In the 70s of the twentieth century, the area of the cemetery was designated for the development of a housing estate. The preserved matzevot were moved to the new Jewish cemetery.
Currently, the area of the cemetery is commemorated by a boulder with a commemorative plaque, and there are garages, a roadway, a pavement and a square on its territory.
The commemoration of the site of the old Jewish cemetery in Mysłowice was possible on the initiative of the Mysłowice Historical Society. Jacob Lustig.
